An adjective  modifies a noun or a pronoun. To modify a word means to describe the word or to make its meaning more definite. An adjective modifies a noun or a pronoun by answering one of these questions:

  • What kind?
  • Which one?
  • How many?

The usual position of an adjective in a sentence, is that it comes before the noun or pronoun that it modifies.

A sweating, exhausted runner crossed the finish line.

sweating & exhausted tell what kind of runner
finish tells what kind of line.
